What Happened?

I was thinking about the time period following 9/11 and the statement the states proudly posted everywhere, United We Stand, and now wonder, What happened? I think I may have a few observations, but I'm still sitting here stumped a week after the reprehensible show made by our political leaders last week during what was so-called entertainment (that is, in fact, antithetical to the real purpose that these meetings are supposed to be). I don't blame some for not wanting to support such a disgusting presentation (kind of side with them a little, to be honest), and I know I'm extremely sensitive when it comes to feeling contempt and contention, even when it's not spoken. Watching all of this causes me to miss the time, however fleeting that was, when both sides of congress stood together in applause for a concern that needed to be addressed and forego the overstated smothering of adoration or hatred (depending on which party they belong) toward the president. Sigh. I wish that would stop. There's nothing productive coming from it, and I feel elevated embarrassment from the behavior of some of my own representatives, which I wish I could get rid of, but too many of my friends and family around me don't see what I'm seeing. I sometimes feel like that one separated from the crowd, and it can be frustrating when others don't listen, but most of my siblings are seeing it too, so at least I have them.

I guess it's just the idealist in me that wishes people would stop being so stubborn and insisting that it be their way or no way. How is anything to be done if we're not willing to listen and/or respect opposing opinions? This enmity between each party is unproductive and will result in many trials within the whole country. I know it's natural to play a big part on blaming the president (and truth be told he can cause plenty of trouble by himself), but in truth it's because of the battle of power between the parties that causes these troubles. The power hunger is ridiculous and pushes both parties to select individuals as candidates whom they think will be the most likely to win without caring about the consequences. As long as our party is in power, all is right, correct? Has no one learned that any party could go bad when we choose the wrong individuals as leaders? Sigh.

I'm just spouting out in frustration right now, so don't mind me. I usually don't get this passionate, but when something gets to me, it really gets to me.

Thanks for putting up with these soapboxes, rants, whatever you wish to call them.

On a lighter note, the first flowers are out!

The first daffodils bloomed!
