A Quiet Sense of Humor

One time a couple of coworkers of mine discussed a hypothetic scenario about an upcoming company party. They wondered who at the party would be the most entertaining to watch if someone happened to secretly spike the punch. The original person who came to mind was another coworker who was a little bit of a proper lady and likely would be horrified at the thought of being drunk. Then one of them started having second thoughts. She decided that I'd actually be more hilarious being "under the influence" than the other lady, because she'd witnessed me do a few crazy things. I've had people tell me several times that I had a great sense of humor.

Sense of humor? Me? Nah. Didn't you know quiet people are too boring and calm to actually have a sense of humor? If I laugh, I'd have to make my face animated: PENDING DOOM.

Really, we quiet ones do appreciate good humor as much as anyone else. Some of it may be a little dry, and you might have to know us really well when we use that type of humor, or otherwise you won't understand it's a joke. Me specifically, I have a little mix. Growing up in a family who found humor in wordplay, any type of humor using wordplay is my kind of thing. I even find a lot of Dad jokes hilarious, but I also have some physical humor also, not slapstick or clowning. I suppose it's easier to say it's just being goofy, a sort of playful or impish type of humor. A lot of people like to tease me, because I'll tease back. Even if they won't I've got plenty of crazy things going on in my mind to make me laugh anyway. It's really not all that unusual for me to sit (or wander) in my quiet placid way, and suddenly start grinning. I've been accused of being "up to something" so many times. I feel like my facial reaction to this accusation often goes something like this:

Well, they suggested it!

As this pops up, I'm reminded of the times when I was a kid and used to spend my bath time making faces in the faucet and cracking up over the warped reflections.

Overall, there are a lot of things I find amusing, and it may be related to my ability to be fascinated by simple things. Sometimes, the humor comes from an awkward moment, which is uncomfortable in the moment, but after it's all over and I look back at it, I start to see how ridiculously funny it was.  I have a few of those. I can look back at those moments and laugh now.

In conclusion, if someone (or yourself) ever tries to tell you that quiet people are boring and have no sense of humor, be assured that is completely wrong. There might be a little more dryness in the humor, but it certainly exists, and some say a quiet person can be extraordinarily hilarious. I don't know about how hilarious this is, but I've been trying out some new programs, including photoshopping, and I've been testing it on a few Disney related things. One of those pictures I created developed from and image that popped up in my mind while I contemplated what I wanted to do. If anyone has read my account from my last Disneyland visit, you'll know a little about why this came to my mind. I didn't get the chance for a picture, so I thought I'd make my own in a way that well represented that encounter. Turns out my quirky sense of humor got in the way, so those who know the story behind this might find the humor in it perhaps at a higher level than those who don't.

Added to the hit list.

I could go on a lot longer here, but there are other things to do, and you probably don't want an overdose of my ramblings, so I'll leave you here. In the meantime, keep moving, enjoy life, and don't be afraid to laugh every now and then. Things are looking up!

Until later...
